Airfox Honored as Finalist in Fast Company World Changing Ideas Award
banQi app recognized in LATAM category of World Changing Ideas award by Fast Company
The winners of Fast Company’s 2020 World Changing Ideas Awards have been announced today, honoring the businesses, policies, projects, and concepts that are actively engaged in and deeply committed to innovation when it comes to the climate crisis, social injustice, or economic inequality.
Airfox is honored to be recognized as a finalist in the LATAM category for bringing financial inclusion to Brazil and empowering the unbanked through the banQi app. Developed with strategic partner Via Varejo, a leading Brazilian retailer that serves 60 million consumers, the banQi platform evolved from the Airfox digital wallet established in 2018.
Airfox has built a network of connections spreading throughout the country where Brazilians can use the app to access and manage their money. Now, millions of unbanked individuals can now open a banQi digital bank account with no charge, complete banking services with little to no fees, transfer money seamlessly, and access financial services via their mobile phones.
Now in its fourth year, World Changing Ideas is one of Fast Company’s major annual awards programs and is focused on social good, seeking to elevate finished products and brave concepts that make the world a better place. A panel of judges from across sectors choose winners, finalists, and honorable mentions based on feasibility and the potential for impact.
The 2020 World Changing Ideas Awards showcase 26 winners, more than 200 finalists, and more than 500 honorable mentions — selected from a pool of more than 3,000 entries across transportation, education, food, politics, technology, and more.
Airfox is proud to have been selected for the World Changing Ideas award from Fast Company. Now more than ever, it is vital that we lift up the individuals and organizations around us that are innovating for good and earnestly working towards a brighter future. In Brazil, where exorbitant interest rates and limited access to financial services are emblematic of the exclusionary barriers facing the roughly 4 billion unbanked, something as simple as the banQi app can be revolutionary — and even world-changing.
Even in these uncertain times, we’re dedicated to continuing our mission of banking the underbanked and changing the world for the better through financial innovation. This honor from Fast Company only proves that we are rocketing in the right direction, and Airfox looks forward to seeing where our continued innovation takes us next.
